Why Here?

Why Now?

The sudden loss of my father in 2010 rocked my world. In my frantic reading about grief and grieving, I realized that the only way out from the weight of my grief, was to try to allow myself to move through it. I gave myself the gifts of time and space to explore my interests in spirituality, art, and life after loss. It was the first time since I became a mother that I had given myself time and space for much of anything.

In that process, I explored writing and making art, as well as yoga and meditation. I believe these tools open the doors to our hearts, and that living from that heart space is the key to a peaceful, joyful existence. So much so, that in 2012 I founded Heart Connected, where I share these healing arts practices with others.

Along the way, I began writing my first blog—My Hat Trick. It was both humbling and inspiring to learn that my experiences in life and loss resonated with others. The blog eventually led to publishing my first book, My New Friend, Grief with Balboa Press.

In the following years, I began work on The Soluna’s Way as an antidote to the chaos that was breaking out in the world at that time. The Soluna’s Way spilled right out of my fingertips and writing it was a joyful and rewarding endeavor. It was good medicine. I loved working with a variety of professionals to bring the book to life.

I understand that humans are complex beings with multiple and ever-changing layers, beliefs, values, and identities and I believe that no matter how these layers manifest in each of us, we are meant to experience it together. I strive to honor the intersection of all aspects of humanity—in body, mind, and spirit—in all I do.

I hold a BA in Interdisciplinary Humanities from Michigan State University and an MSW from the University of Michigan, School of Social Work. I am also a Reiki Master and Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT). I completed Yoga Teacher Training in 2016.

I live in Brighton, Michigan with my husband, our three children, and our two labradoodles. As a family we love laughing, traveling, and spending time on Lake Michigan.

Thank you for your time. I'd love to hear from you if you feel inclined to share!
