The 2017 Heart Connected Retreat
We are thrilled to announce that this year's Heart Connected Retreat will take place September 14-17, 2017 on world renowned Torch Lake at the Majila Estate in beautiful Bellaire Michigan! THIS RETREAT IS FULL.
The mission of the Heart Connected Retreat is to create space for you to tune in to your heart with art and other healing practices. No artistic experience is ever necessary. Everything you need already exists within you. We promise.
“ANYTHING ANNA TOUCHES TURNS TO LOVE! SHE IS SUCH A RADIANT LIGHT IN THE WORLD THAT WHETHER YOU ARE DOING ONE OF HER ONLINE COURSES OR HER RETREATS, YOU WILL FEEL LOVED, SUPPORTED, NURTURED AND TOTALLY CARED FOR... AND YOU’LL LAUGH A LOT ALONG THE WAY”. -MICHELE VAN DERRICK, BAINBRIDGE ISLAND
Please join us as we gather at the magical Majila Estate on world renowned Torch Lake. Surrounded by beautiful woods and the captivating, crystal clear waters of Torch Lake, we will indulge in a few blissful days of filling our hearts with love and our bellies with delicious food.
Give yourself the gift of this precious time to reflect and replenish yourself with art, connection, and nourishment for your mind, body, and spirit.
After a light dinner on Thursday night we will begin with an opening circle. Here we will begin getting acquainted and set our intentions for our time together.
Friday and Saturday we will explore soulful ways to dive into our hearts and the deep truths and desires that reside there.
We will use a variety of artful techniques to connect with our hearts, our beautiful surroundings, and with each other. We will also enjoy the gift of spectacular meals and delectable fruit and herb infused waters made by our personal chef, Andi. Andi will plan our menu with love and attention to what is in season using organic and local foods as much as possible.
Sarah, our resident yogi, will be offering gentle yoga classes during our time together.
We also allow for open space in our days together – in your free time, you may choose to take a walk along the beautiful ten acre grounds of Majila, sit on the dock, take a nap, or schedule a massage at the spa at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa, not far from Majila.
On Sunday morning we will gather one last time before we return to our everyday lives feeling restored. By Monday morning we will be desperately missing our new dear sister friends.
Plus, a very special opportunity
As part of this year's retreat, Anna, our retreat leader and also a Certified Soul Restoration Instructor, will be guiding guests through the SHE DID IT ANYWAY® module of the Soul Restoration curriculum designed by Melody Ross of Brave Girls Club.
In acknowledging that each of us has had to overcome adversity, challenges and failures…we find that one common trait in all heroines is their choice to look difficulties in the face and move forward anyway.
In this workshop, guests will create a SHE DID IT ANYWAY® book, with the intention of capturing each guest's unique story -- including the difficult challenges we face as women and our commitment to live life on our own terms in spite of these challenges.
Please read carefully.
The retreat will begin with check-in between 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 14 and end with check-out Sunday, September 17 at 10:00 a.m..
The cost of the retreat ranges from $995-1295 depending on your room selection. The retreat cost includes your accommodations for three nights, all the supplies you will need for the SHE DID IT ANYWAY® workshop and other projects, and all your delicious meals and snacks — from a light dinner on Thursday through breakfast on Sunday.
Overnight accommodations at Majila feature cozy, well appointed rooms and bathrooms (both shared and private). You will select your room at registration.
A non-refundable deposit of $250 is required to reserve your spot at the retreat.
We can accommodate most special dietary needs. Please make sure to let us know what kinds of foods you will require at registration, so Chef Andi can plan ahead to meet your needs.
Registration opens Tuesday, April 11, 2017
Your registration is not complete until you have selected your room, paid a deposit, and received confirmation of your registration.
Payment is due in full by August 31, 2017.
Due to the nature of this retreat and the degree of planning involved, all sales are final.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
It was Anna’s long held dream come true to hold space for women to share their stories over art and craft, delicious food, and long walks in the woods. The amazing women who show up each year inspire Anna to continue on this path. She now looks forward to welcoming you and the rest of the beautiful souls joining you into the peaceful, healing space of this Heart Connected Retreat.
Anna loves to play with paint, paper, and words. Each retreat she attends or leads contributes in its own way to the ongoing shifts she makes in her work and in her personal life.
Inspired by her teachers and guides, Anna will be guiding us through the She Did It Anyway Workshop and other heart connected projects during the retreat. Read how her vision came to life in the Spring issue of Mingle magazine!
Retired from a career in health care and education, Kathleen has been exposed to many philosophies about how to promote a healthy lifestyle and live a happy life. She believes we are all artists, “We create our lives, we manifest our dreams. Our capacity to create has a lot to do with our feelings about ourselves and our connection to others. Sometimes we have to take a step back and refuel, replenish, renew, restore–maybe heal! Heart Connected offers that time and space.”
As our hostess and guide for this retreat, Kathleen draws from her own life experience. Eager to inspire and encourage, she shares her interests in journaling, collage, photography, painting, and mixed media, and her love of nature. Her passion is to see each day as a new opportunity to be curious, stand in wonderment, and allow self-expression. Her joy is being with her family and friends.
Clinical Social Worker by day and Certified Yoga Instructor by night, Sarah will serve as a compassionate listening ear and resident cheerleader. She enjoys walking, running, yoga, dance, journaling, mixed media, and collage work.
Sarah is motivated by invoking the truth and light that lies within each of us, allowing for (re)connection to the inner artist. She looks forward to seeing you and supporting you during your retreat weekend.
Sarah resides in Southeast Michigan with her husband and two children.
Andi, our fabulous chef for the weekend, owns As You Dish, a personal chef and catering service in Traverse City, Michigan. She also owns and operates Fab Fresh Foods, a meal delivery service that makes healthy eating simple and delicious!
Last year Andi moved into the Grand Traverse Food Shed at Cherry Capital Foods, where she works aside other small business owners who are as passionate as she is about sharing the flavors of northern Michigan.
Andi will provide nourishing, wholesome food for the retreat (using organic and locally-sourced food when available). She believes that health starts from within and hopes her offerings will too, keep you Heart Connected.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: DO I NEED TO BE AN ARTIST TO ATTEND THIS RETREAT?
A: We believe that we are all artists – at the very least, our lives are our masterpieces. That said, no art experience is necessary to fully enjoy and embrace this retreat experience. Whether you identify as an artist or not, you should be very happy here. Everyone is welcome as is.
Q: I AM ANXIOUS TO LEARN A LOT OF NEW TECHNIQUES THIS YEAR. WHAT KINDS OF TECHNIQUES WILL I LEARN ON THIS RETREAT?
A: This is not a technique-heavy retreat. While you may pick up a few new tricks or learn to see something with a new perspective, the focus of this retreat is not to teach technique or any particular methods of art.
Q: HOW DO I GET TO Bellaire?
A: Bellaire is just north of Traverse City. Depending on your place of origin, you may drive or take a flight from anywhere in the world to the Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City, Michigan (airport code TVC), which is just south of the Torch Lake Region. You may also choose to fly into Grand Rapids, which is about a two hour drive.
Q: WHAT KIND OF ART SUPPLIES DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME?
A: We will have all the art supplies you need to complete your projects, but if you have any special supplies that you would love to use, or tools that you can’t live without, please bring them (space is limited so be selective). We also ask that you bring any personal ephemera you would like to use – this could be pictures, ticket stubs, handwritten notes, receipts, or pretty much anything that can be glued down or fastened to the page.
Q: WHAT ARE THE ACCOMMODATIONS LIKE?
A: We will stay at the Majila Estate on Torch Lake. There are eight nicely appointed bedrooms with comfortable beds - some with shared baths and some with private baths. Each retreat guest will have her own bed in either a shared or private room. You will select your room when you register. All linens and towels are provided.
Q: WHAT SHOULD I PACK?
A: Hmm… the weather in Michigan is anything but predictable. Plan to dress in layers. We like comfy jeans or yoga pants, t-shirts, and sweaters or hoodies for warmth. Dress comfortably, and bring a pair of slippers! If you think you might want to venture into the water, you might want to bring water shoes; however Torch Lake is known for its soft, sandy bottom and crystal clear waters. You might want your camera, and possibly a pair of binoculars if you enjoy birding.
Q: A MASSAGE SOUNDS NICE, HOW DO I ARRANGE THAT?
A: If you are interested in a massage or other spa service, we will have free time on Saturday when you can schedule that. To allow for travel time, schedule your service between 1:30 and 3:30 at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa. If by chance, they cannot accommodate you within that timeframe and you really want to enjoy a service, please go ahead and schedule something. This is your retreat!
Q: WHAT IF I JUST WANT TO SIT ON THE dock FOR TWO DAYS?
A: This is your retreat, and you can sit on the dock if you want to. If you need someone to talk to, we are here for you. We want to help you find ways to honor your time in whatever form that takes. No pressure.
Q: WOW, THIS ALL SOUNDS SO AMAZING! HOW DO I SIGN UP?!?
A: The 2017 retreat is full.
Q: WHAT IF I REGISTER, BUT SOMETHING COMES UP AND I CAN’T ATTEND?
A: Due to the nature of this event, your retreat cost is non-refundable; however, you are welcome to find someone to take your place.
Q: I REALLY WANT TO RESERVE MY SPOT, BUT i'm unable TO PAY IN FULL at this time, DO YOU OFFER A PAYMENT PLAN?
A: Absolutely. A $250 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your spot. Payment is due in full by August 31, 2017. That leaves plenty of time to arrange for payment. Contact Anna at email@example.com to initiate a payment plan.
Q: I LIVE NEAR Bellaire AND I’D LOVE TO ATTEND THE RETREAT, BUT I’D PREFER TO STAY IN MY OWN HOME, CAN I DO THAT?
A: At this time our space is reserved for guests staying onsite at Majila. Please let Anna know you are interested in staying offsite and she will make sure to let you know if this changes. You can reach her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q: I WOULD LOVE TO ATTEND, BUT I CAN ONLY COME ON SATURDAY, CAN I COME FOR ONE DAY?
A: Given the intimate nature of this retreat, it is best experienced over the full course of time. We are sorry but we cannot accommodate partial attendance. Please consider attending the next one.
Q: YOU haven't answered my QUESTION!
A: Please feel free to contact Anna with any concerns or questions, or to let her know how excited you are to join us on this lovely retreat. You can reach her at email@example.com.
